Artistic Swimming
'Explore & Expression'
During the second series of our Artistic Swimming programme we will progress from the skills you learned in the Artistic Swimming Experience – you will explore artistic swimming and express yourself in the water.
This programme is filled with fun and creativity which will engage and inspire you to try new things – as individuals, with a partner and working as a team.
There is no right or wrong....you will be encouraged to explore your creativity, freedom for expression, imagination and variety.
This programme covers:

3. Explore Connection
- Demonstrate with a partner a mirror arm and body movement either treading water or eggbeating
- Demonstrate with a partner a mirrored tub rotation
- Perform a sequence in synchronisation with a partner that includes one creative stroke, one
mirrored skill and one arm and/or body movement - Demonstrate a partner link connected via the arms OR legs
- Demonstrate a partner link connected via the legs AND arms
- In a group, demonstrate two formation changes using artistic swimming strokes
- Demonstrate a group link
- Perform a group cadence with arms
- Perform a group cadence with legs
- Perform a group sequence including one formation change, a group link, one arm sequence and one cadence action
4. Explore Expression & Creativity
- Swim 20m of creative backstroke
- Perform a snowflake
- Demonstrate an expressive arm and body sequence. This can be done either treading water or eggbeating
- Perform an oyster variation
- Perform a rising arm movement
- Demonstrate a ballet leg variation, with support if required
- Demonstrate one way to propel yourself through water without kicking
- Perform a sequence of artistic swimming strokes, including backstroke, front crawl and
breaststroke, all with indirect movement and creative transitions for 20m - Swim underwater 5m, jump off the bottom and create an arm position and/or movement in the air, sink under and swim underwater 5m
- Perform an individual sequence including a minimum of one stroke, one body balance skill and one arm and body movement
5. Water Safety Skills
- Perform a star float for 15 seconds with face, chest, hips and feet at the surface
- Demonstrate a back layout travelling head first for 10m and then feet first for 10m
- Demonstrate partner mirror swimming for 10m
- Travel 10m in canoe scull
- Demonstrate eggbeater on the spot for 30 seconds
- Travel sideways in eggbeater for 10m
- Swim 5m underwater, go through a hoop underwater, turn around underwater and swim back through the hoop before surfacing
- Demonstrate underwater vertical and horizontal movement
- Swim underwater for 10m and perform a front tuck somersault whilst underwater, then continue swimming underwater in the same direction for another 5m
- Demonstrate eggbeater on the spot with one arm out of the water for 15 seconds
